Burns Check Tartan Fabric

Robert Burns, was born at Alloway on 25th January, 1759. His family came to Ayrshire and built the auld clay biggan in Alloway, where he spent the first seven years of his life. Burns and his brother Gilbert moved to Mossgiel, near Mauchline, where many of his immortal verses were penned. Thereafter, he moved to Ellisland, near Dumfries, and died in the Burns House in Irish Street, Dumfries, at the early age of 37. The late Baron Marchand of Messrs George Harrison & Co. of Edinburgh, thought it fit and proper that our National Bard should have his own check. The design contains the Shepherd Check of black and white, to remind us of the farmer; a Hodden Grey over check recalls the famous line in his poem "A man's a man for a' that, " and two soft green lines through the over check symbolise the fields and meadows where most of his thoughts were born. The check was first produced in the bi-centenary year of 1959. Reiver 10oz Tartan Fabric, sold by the Yard , 150cm wide. Woven in Scotland.
