Wemyss Ancient Light Weight Tartan. Fifeshire is the home of this family, who claim to be descended from the MacDuff Earls of Fife, the progenitor of the family obtained the lands of Wemyss, who created a Baronet, was raised to the Scottish Peerage as Lord Wemyss of Elcho, and in 1633 was created Earl of Wemyss. The 4th Earl was appointed Lord High Admiral of Scotland by Queen Anne. Lord Elcho, son of the 5th Earl, was colonel of Prince Charlie's horse guards during the 1745 Jacobite Rising and was attained.
